Hitman: World of Assassination Adds Full Cross-Progression Across 10+ Platforms, Ending Hitman 2 Carryover

January 21, 2026 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

IO Interactive has confirmed that Hitman: World of Assassination will introduce full cross-progression across more than 10 platforms on 3 February 2026, meaning save data, achievements, and unlocks will be unified regardless of where you play. The existing Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 progression transfer tool will be retired the same day.

To mark the fifth anniversary of Hitman 3, IO Interactive has announced a major update: starting 3 February 2026, players of Hitman: World of Assassination will have cross-progression, allowing them to seamlessly share their experience, unlocks, and other progress across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch 2, Switch, Windows Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, and iOS. This update ensures that the long-requested save transfer feature will now cover every supported device, reflecting the game’s availability on over 10 platforms since its rebranding in 2023.

Hitman Cross-Progression: Dates, Details, and Affected Game Modes

IO Interactive stated directly on its website, “On this day, exactly 5 years ago, Hitman 3 launched worldwide for our players to experience, as the final chapter of the World of Assassination trilogy. As part of that special milestone, it was also important for Hitman to equip its players with a sense of continuity by allowing everyone to bring forward their established progression from previous parts.”

The cross-progression update applies from 3 February 2026, following these changes:

  • Cross-Progression Launch Date: 3 February 2026
  • Supported Platforms:
    • PS5
    • PS4
    • Xbox Series X/S
    • Xbox One
    • Switch 2
    • Switch
    • Windows Store
    • Steam
    • Epic Games Store
    • iOS
  • Features Carried Over:
    • Experience
    • Player level
    • Challenges
    • Location mastery
    • Unlocks and inventory
    • Achievements / trophies
    • Freelancer mode progression
    • Campaign story progress
  • DLC Restrictions: Only the DLC content purchased on each specific platform is accessible there. Unlocks and missions linked to DLC will not transfer unless that DLC is owned on the target platform.
  • End of Hitman 2 Carryover: The Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 carryover system will be discontinued on 3 February 2026.

IO clarified, “Since the release of Hitman: World of Assassination, it has been our wish to enable this feature for players to be able to carry on their in-game progression, whatever the device you play on, and even more so since World of Assassination is now playable on more than 10 different platforms.” This statement reflects not only the technical scope of the update but the continuity it brings to the entire Hitman trilogy experience.

IO’s Full Statement and Key Platform Advice

On social media, IO announced, “Mark your calendars, Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN World of Assassination on February 3rd. Your progression will now follow you no matter where you choose to play.”

That means if you play on console, switch to PC or move between devices, your player level, unlocks, and progress will now move with you automatically from 3 February. IO cautions, “To access specific locations, missions, or DLC items on another platform, you must own that content on that platform. If you do not own a piece of content on a platform, you will not have access to it, or its associated unlocks there, even if you unlocked them elsewhere.”

Players still relying on the Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 carryover should transfer their progress to World of Assassination before that system is discontinued. After 3 February, all transfers and saves will be managed through the unified cross-progression update.
